Instagram Story photo size in pixels, ratio and cm
Instagram Help describes organic Stories as full screen at a 9:16 ratio, and it does not publish a pixel size for them. Meta Business Help recommends 1080×1920 px (9:16) for Story images in its ads guidance, with a minimum of 600×1067. So 1080×1920 is the resolution Meta recommends, not a rule Instagram enforces, and it is the size this tool outputs.
Story dimensions are pixels, not centimeters or inches. A phone screen shows pixels, so a Story has no fixed physical size. If you need a print reference, 1080×1920 px at 300 pixels per inch works out to about 3.6×6.4 inches, or 9.1×16.3 cm.
Resize a photo for an Instagram Story without cropping
Most photos are not shaped like the tall 9:16 Story frame, so a plain resize either crops the edges or distorts the picture. This tool does neither. It fits the whole photo inside a 1080×1920 canvas and places it on a white background. A landscape photo gets white bars above and below, a very tall photo gets white borders on the sides, and a photo already close to 9:16 gets almost no border.
Story screens show interface elements near the top and bottom edges, so keep faces and text away from those areas. If you want a full-bleed Story with no borders, crop the photo yourself first, because this tool never crops.
Story image quality, file size and privacy
The output is a JPG at 1080×1920 px, and the tool does not apply a KB limit. Detail depends on your original: a photo with few pixels cannot gain sharpness from a bigger canvas, so start from the sharpest version you have. WhatsApp Help says Status supports 9:16 but does not support HD, so WhatsApp may lower the quality of a Status even when your JPG is 1080×1920.
